Most Alison Krausst szeressük a változatosság kedvéért. If I were a carpenter című számot Johnny Cash emlékkoncerten adta elő Dwight Yoakam kíséretében. Megnéztem néhány változatot, de szerintem ez a legbensőségesebb és a szöveghez legjobban passzoló. 🙂

If I were a carpenter
And you were a lady,
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?

If you were a carpenter,
and I were a lady,
I would marry you anyway,
I’d have your baby.

Save my love through loneliness,
Save my love for sorrow,
I’m given you my loneliness,
Give me your tomorrow.

If a tinker was my trade
would ask you find you?
Carrying the pots you made,
Following behind you.

If I were a miller,
had a millwheel grinding.
Would you miss my colored blouse,
on soft you shining.

Save my love through loneliness,
Save my love for sorrow,
I’m given you my loneliness,
Give me your tomorrow.

If I were a carpenter
And you were a lady,
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?

If you were a carpenter,
and I were a lady,
I would marry you anyway,
I’d have your baby.
